An End to Being “Green”

Driving a Prius isn’t eco-friendly, organic beauty products don’t reverse climate change, putting an organic tomato in your shopping cart provides you with a tomato, nothing more. Our individual environmental footprint is completely negligible on a global scale. You are helpless. Stop trying to save the environment. You can’t. Want to know why? Because we live on a big planet that has existed for billions of years that rotates around a burning star. And it doesn’t really care what you do. Yes, you are responsible for fucking it up. Join the club–it’s not that exclusive; as of date, we’re looking at about 6.8 billion members.

As any young gentleman looking to throw a party knows only 2 things matter, one is girls or more specifically girl to guy ratio; two is music. Of course any wise man knows that a diverse mix of libations is the most important thing, but that goes without saying because if you don’t have drinks you don’t have a party. Now if you have good music then the ladies will come. It’s like a siren song of a good time. They know that there might be dancing or at least a good sing-a-long that might develop at the end capping off a great night. Here’s 10 songs guaranteed to get the party started and keep it rolling through the night.

Men are by their very nature prickly beasts. As cavemen we had to hunt for survival back in the day. We had to create the wheel to make pots for porridge and to hold our beers. So because we’ve been hardwired primarily for survival, we are sometimes hard-headed and stubborn as mules. There are times when you need to help set the mood or just express emotions that don’t come easily. We need music to help us reach our softer side which is buried deep in our DNA. Here are 15 songs to show her you have a soft side (even if you really don’t).

Being an avid golfer, I witness a wide array of skill levels, from beginners to scratch players. And I detest playing with beginners who don’t have common golf courtesy. Observing your group’s ardent golfer or a pro’s decorum can subconsciously improve your own mannerisms around the fairways. Golf is obviously played at a different pace than your average sport; therefore, certain rules apply to it. There is no other sport where you penalize yourself. When I’m playing pickup hoops, I’m not going to call fouls on myself [and if you're the one who calls charges, you suck]. Golf is different. Not many other sports have unwritten rules that dictate the code of conduct. If you’re new to the sport, be cognizant of the following golf etiquette tips when you play, as it will lead to a more pleasurable round amongst your foursome. It most likely won’t improve your score though.

The gym represents so many things to different people. For some, it is a safe haven after a taxing day at work. For others, it is a glorified happy hour to pick up dimes (chicks). But for most, the gym is an ally to fight that never ending war: “The Battle of the Bulge.”

Whether you’re a weekend warrior at Average Joe’s Gym or a meat-headed freak from Globo Gym, there are a few rules of gym etiquette to follow so you don’t end up being “that guy.”

absinthe
photography by androog

Lately everything we see on television or on billboards has something do with the environment. You’ve seen and heard about, the “lets keep it green campaign.” I’m sure we are all for it, keeping emissions down with your car, turning off a light in a room you’re not using, or powering down your computer. Let’s all keep the environment healthy and go green! Well, why not add one more variable to the cause, let’s go green with our alcohol!

If you haven’t heard, as of December 2007 absinthe is now legal in the United States. Absinthe is the infamous spirit for which the famous artist Van Gogh eagerly consumed one night, started to hallucinate, (I assume at this point had one really bad trip) and promptly cut off his ear. And it’s color bares beautiful shades of green.

We all remember the basics our mothers taught us about table manners–no elbows on the dinner table and don’t talk with your mouth full. But ever wonder which fork to use for your salad or how to signal a waiter at a fancy restaurant? Read on and learn the basic table manner tips that will be sure to impress your date, girlfriend/wife’s parents, employers or whomever you dine with.

There are moments in life when you need to get jacked up. They could be when you’re preparing for a big presentation, going to the gym, getting ready for a big game, going out for a run or just needing to feel the blood and adrenaline rushing through your veins to remind you that you are alive.

Music consisting of a pattern of sounds and silences constructed into an art form is the most consistent way that I know to get amped up. A top 10 list is too restrictive, so I busted out 15 highly diversified, high-octane songs to get you pumped up (in no particular order). Enjoy.

Wine for Beginners

January 16, 2008 | topsomm | 6 Comments

As we all say hello to the new year, we all have goals and resolutions to look forward to. Whether it be weight loss, a new job or a raise in salary, I’m never opposed to someone expanding their horizons in some way. Being the advocate that I am, I’m always willing to introduce people into the world of wine. I’m still perturbed that most Americans don’t share the same enthusiasm about wine the rest of the world does. Maybe it has to do with a “high-class only” perception that wine yielded for so many decades. Wine was seen mostly as a luxury item, but those days are long gone. It is widely available, and quite inexpensive in some cases.

2007 Year in Music

Looking back at the year in music is like going to the grocery store and looking at the fruits and vegetables selection. A lot of different varieties of apples, oranges and tomatoes just to name a few. Very much like music in 2007, there is little of everything for someone’s taste. Some things good, some things not so good. Focusing on the good stuff, lets feast on this in no particular order of course.

Being an avid listener of the hip hop music since I was a child, I want to drop my two-cents on the topic IS HIP HOP DEAD? As we get closer to 2008 this same topic is still being discussed on television, magazines, hip hop magazines and even between friends. And to be honest, there is no right or wrong answer. Remember this is my opinion and if you dislike what I have to say then please drop a comment and let me know how you really feel. Now i shall proceed……..

Hip hop is alive and well. Just like fashion, hip hop changes either for better or worse. From Crime mob to Ghostface, Souljah boy to Outkast, Ugk to Mistah Fab it is still and always will be hip hop. You don’t have to like these artist, just as I am not a fan of Soulja boy or Mistah fab, but saying hip hop is dead just because Continue reading »
