The Nerds that Changed The World
September 30, 2008 by markcondon · 6 Comments

When I was growing up my parents always reassured me that once I got out into the real world, the social status I had acquired in high school would soon dissolve into the night. We would all just be people. No longer would there be jocks, nerds and preps. Of course that’s not true at all, and as I grew older I became more comfortable with my nerdy habits, and have ultimately come to accept who I am. This list is a compilation of other people who have come to terms with who they are. Nerds are one of the most influential group of people in the world… I just wish someone would have told the girls I liked in high school that.

The “No Zone”
September 24, 2008 by stergeron · 6 Comments

Editor’s Note: This is a post from a familiar face, Ploomy Girl #2 Elle. We’ve asked her to take us with her as she explores the New York City scene. Look for more of her posts and be sure to check out her blog if you get a chance.
At one of my previous jobs, we had a harassment policy called the “No Zone.” The policy outlines workplace appropriate behavior and politely refers to your physical, mental, and emotional personal space, your No Zone. Saying, “You’re in my No Zone” seems to be less confrontational than, “Harry, please stop pinching my bottom every time I walk by your desk.” I never used the term seriously, but whenever coworkers would come near me I would drag my foot across the floor in front of me as if drawing a line in the sand and yell “No getting in my No Zone!”

Which MMO is Right for You?
September 24, 2008 by markcondon · 4 Comments
Which MMO is right for you?
Right now the Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Role Playing Game Industry is a battlefield, filled with screaming Orcs, caped super heroes, and Majestic Elves setting fields a flame and other such creatures buying for your attention and ultimately for your checkbook. But in this fast paced world where, you, the player can make a fortune looting dungeons and defeating enemies you should know which game is right for you.
In order to figure out what MMO is right for you we need to assess what type of gamer you are, or think you will be. Most current MMO’s are based strongly on teams, these teams are primarily made up of other gamers. So if the game heavily relies on you going on quests with real people, I’ll make a note of it. The second element you need to take into consideration is whether or not you’re willing to pay a monthly or yearly fee for your gaming fix. Whether or not you’re willing to pay and ultimately how much you’re willing to pay will greatly affect which game you eventually pick up. The third element you need to take into consideration is how much time you’re willing to invest on the game. If you’re a freshmen in college, or better yet still in high school you no doubt have more free time to spend than someone who’s working 40 hours a week and this will affect which games you will be playing.
Granted each one of these games have many more elements to them than what I could even begin to go into here. And most certainly this article is not a be all end all list. Instead it’s a suggestion, if you disagree, feel hurt or angry that your favorite MMO was left out or want to suggest a game that we haven’t even heard of yet feel free to do so in the comments. Of course the games I mention here are not the only MMO’s out there either (WarHammer Online and Conan the Barbarian Online are the new kids on the block), but hey, these are great starting places for this conversation.

Why Does Success Take So Long? (What Bamboo Trees Can Teach Us About Growth)
September 16, 2008 by stergeron · 11 Comments

With this post I want to focus on a topic that is very top of mind for me right now. And that is the idea of “growth.”
In about 3 months, I will be turning the big 30 and I am actually really looking forward to it. No, there aren’t the flying cars or hovercraft skateboards like the ones in Back to the Future like I’d imagined there to be at this age, but that’s okay.
Naturally, it’s been a time of reflection and I’ve definitely been thinking off and on throughout this last year about what the heck I am doing in my life. Where am I actually heading, where do I want to go now, and what do I have to do to get there? I’m guessing you do this sometimes too right?
Of course you don’t have to be turning 30 to have these thoughts, but for me it’s just something I’ve thought about a lot more recently.
A little while back, a friend of mine told me this story about how Chinese Bamboo Trees grow. I thought it was very insightful and really helped me to think about the idea of growth in a different way.
Now, I should note that there are over 1500+ types of bamboo trees. Just remember, these probably aren’t those little office plants you’re used to seeing. You’ll see what I am talking about in a moment.

15 Things that Guys Do that Drive Women Nuts
September 12, 2008 by MSBautista · 10 Comments

The other night a girl friend of mine called complaining her boyfriend said he’d call at 9:30pm, but it’s half past 10 and he hadn’t called yet. A co-worker reports to me that her brother always forgets Mother’s Day, and he put his name on the present she bought. These are two very classic examples of behaviors that some guys do that drive women up the wall—not calling when they say they’ll call (according to Michelle K.) and forgetfulness (according to Jenny K.).
Every woman has different tolerance levels for obnoxiousness, cockiness and all things that drive them outright crazy! I asked roughly two dozen girls, “What are things that guys do that drive you nuts.” You may be surprised by some of the 15 things that made the list.
Disclaimer: This article is not meant to bash on guys. Some of the thoughts and gripes are specific to the individual woman and are not meant to stereotype men (or women, for that matter).

Regrets that are Okay to Have
September 5, 2008 by reegsta · 7 Comments

“In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets” – Jay-Z
While most of us including myself have a no regrets mantra, sometimes we need to swallow our pride to admit that there are a few we might possess. True if a few things worked out differently, it might have tipped the delicate balance of your life. Had the domino fell another way, then who knows what position you would currently be in. You could be in a better or worse situation, but you’ll never really know. You shouldn’t always look back and lament these, so it’s best to chalk up the L and keep it moving and attribute it to experience.
