Ploomy Girl #8: I Heart BT

Ploomy Girl #8, Brittany Taylor Diana (wow, that’s 3 first names) may be from a small town, but her dreams are anything but small. This beautiful former gymnast and current student at the Fashion Institute of Technology is living it up the only way a 21-year old living in New York should—large. Spend a few minutes with us and learn why we absolutely <3 BT.

We see that your hometown of Canfield, Ohio had a population of less than 8,000 (as of the 2000 census) and in 2005 was voted the 82nd Best Place to Live in the United States. What was it like growing up there?
Brittany: Canfield is a small town which makes me a small town girl, and because it is such a small town you really meet some great people and maintain everlasting friendships. I really enjoyed growing up in Canfield (minus the drama of a small town). People are very close to one another and always kind and helpful if you’re in need.

What made you decide to move to the Big Apple? How does it compare to Ohio?
Brittany: My dream has always been to live in a big city whether it was Manhattan, Chicago, or LA. I chose to follow my heart to the Big Apple. Even though I grew up in a small town, my heart was in the city. Every time I would visit Manhattan for a fabulous girls weekend (which consisted of non-stop shopping), it just felt right. I felt like I just belonged there. So I worked very hard in school and followed my heart to the city. Ohio and Manhattan are nothing alike, but I do feel without the encouragement from my loving parents and friends who believed in me I would not be where I am today.

You’re currently a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology. What made you want to get into fashion?
Brittany: Let me just start out by saying the Fashion Institute of Technology is amazing! I would not want to be anywhere else. I was always a very fashionable kid—my mother would dress me as if I was walking the red carpet everyday. As I grew up I continued to dress to impress and had a strong desire to learn more about fashion and the industry. For all you fashion forward teens out there, if you’re interested in a career in fashion, FIT is where it’s at.

What’s your favorite neighborhood to hang out in New York?
Brittany: My favorite part of New York would have to be East Village because the bars are cute and unique and the people are down to earth and fun loving!

We can tell that you really like to have a good time and party. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done on a night out on the town?
Brittany: Work hard and party harder! I’m a full-time and dedicated student, but I always make time to go out with my friends. Life is too short! Even if the bar/party is beat, we always seem to make it fun. I haven’t done anything too shameful, maybe make out with my friends on occasion, but hey it’s all in good fun :)

NYC is an expensive place to live in. Do you have a part-time job while you’re going to school?
Brittany: NYC is insanely expensive! Job??? What’s that? Daddy pays for me to live it up :) Just kidding! My parents are wonderful and I appreciate everything they have done for me. I am a full-time student and work very hard for the grades I receive. School is my full-time job right now!

What would your dream job be after you graduate?
Brittany: My dream job would be to work at a top notch Public Relations Agency.

What do you think is the single biggest thing guys can do to improve their fashion sense without being a douche?
Brittany: I of course love my guys to be fashionable, but the key would be to stay manicured, keep yourself maintained and just take pride in yourself.

Outside of school, and all the partying, what else do you like to do for fun?
Brittany: I like to shop, workout and sing. I also use to be a gymnast, and sometimes I catch myself still flipping around the house.

What’s your favorite sport to play? Favorite sport to watch?
Brittany: I’d have to say my favorite sport to do would be gymnastics. I would have to say my favorite sport to watch would be basketball, I get really into the game!

How many years were you a gymnast? What was your specialty?
Brittany: I was a gymnast for 16 years of my life. I lived and breathed gymnastics. I wanted to go to college and continue my love for the sport, but with all the hard training it became too hard on my body. The ligaments in the right side of my ankle gave out and completely disintegrated. If I wanted to go back, I would have had to get reconstruction surgery. My specialty was definitely the floor exercise. I was always a good dancer which is an important part of the floor exercise. I guess you can say I knew how to strut my stuff :) I was always putting on a show. I also had a lot of power and was never afraid to try new and advanced things.

What is a talent you have that not many people know about?
Brittany: That I can sing. I use to do a lot with my voice when I was younger but I stopped which I know my grandparents aren’t happy about! I love to sing though but I mostly just sing in the car now days :(

What makes a guy hot?
Brittany: The perfect guy to me is tall, athletic, dark hair, pearly white teeth and looks to kill :)

What’s your idea of a great first date?
Brittany: A great first date would be some flowers a fabulous dinner and a horse and buggy ride in Central Park.

You say on your Facebook that you are a good lover. How do we know that you’re not just making this stuff up?
Brittany: Hey, that’s just what I have heard. No one has ever complained?

What do you think men need to know?
Brittany: To all you men out there just be yourself, and also be nice to girls. Girls don’t like mean guys!

What are you doing this Friday night?
Brittany
: This Friday night I am going to a pool party at a friend’s house.

I too grew up in a small town (but in Wisconsin). There is a lot of drama like you mention and it definitely has its benefits and stuggles. Sometimes it’s good to leave for a bit to a bigger city like you’ve done. Good luck in school.
Btw, Some of your friends are kind of hot too.
