How to Heal a Black Eye

Stay clear of fighting, leave it to the professionals. Who do you think you are, Tyler Durden? Are you a sports guy? If so, watch out because balls hurt and depending on the game some balls hurt much more than others. Maybe it’s concerts or the extreme sports, or maybe you’re just plain clumsy. Regardless of the situation, we suggest you take some notes on how to keep your new shiner hidden from the curious boss or coworker.

When some people think of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), the first thought that comes to mind conjures up images of violence and ‘human cockfighting’ ala John McCain 1995.

What those people fail to realize is that with the grassroots efforts of promoters, legislators, fans, and fighters alike, MMA has become one the fastest growing sports in the world today.

The signs are everywhere. Think boxing and follow the dollars. Gary Shaw, one of the preeminent boxing promoters of his time is now consulting EliteXC, the home of street fight legend Kimbo Slice. Donald Trump is now co-investing in MMA in with Tom Atencio’s Affliction. And Floyd Mayweather, the consensus baddest pound-for-pound boxer on the planet, has now retired from boxing. Rumor has it that he’s getting involved in a different combat sport now…

In college you and the guys would pile into the biggest/most highway worthy car; chip in for gas; load up on cheap beer and Doritos and head out on that most guy of guy events – the “road-trip”.

Now you are (somewhat of) an adult and have a little scratch to spend. You don’t want to jam in with 4 smelly dudes in the back seat while they spill PBR all over your crotch every time you hit a pothole.

A great bear once said, “Only you can prevent forest fires” (Smokey that is, but you knew that already).

I can’t think of one guy I know who didn’t get benched, scolded, grounded at least once for playing with or starting a fire when they were younger. By the time we are grown, you’d think most of us would be certified experts in knowing how to build a campfire. The truth is, most guys don’t have this skill in their repertoire so here is a simple Manducation on “How to Build a Campfire.”

The U.S. economy is lagging worse than reruns of The English Patient. While the banking and real estate industries have their investors in tears, oil and gas investors are sporting Tony Robbins-sized grins, puffing on a $50 Cohiba as their yacht pulls into the harbor. What’s my point, you ask? They were opportunists, seizing opportunities when others looked the other way. When asked what his investment strategy is, Warren Buffet—worth a reported $62 billion—explained that he “simply attempts to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.” The market will eventually rebound, that’s the beauty of capitalism. In today’s bearish market, there’s no better time to sin than now.
