Maybe it’s the southern hospitality, but there’s just something sexy about women from the South. Ploomy Girl #5 Cindy Lu from Atlanta, GA is no exception. This 23-year old recent nursing graduate is what we look for here at Ploomy. She’s got secret tattoos, dresses up for Halloween, loves giving guys shots (of the medical variety) and has also been known to tear up the dance floor. We caught up with this busy belle and got a few doses of that southern charm we keep hearing about.
So you currently live in Atlanta. What’s the most fun thing to do in Atlanta?
Cindy: I’m so glad it’s summer (SUMMER!) time so there’s lots of things to do! The weather’s perfect (well, almost because sometimes it’s sweltering!) and I love being outdoors. The most fun thing to do in Atlanta is definitely to go out. There’s such a great nightlife scene here. I’ll call a couple of my close friends, we’ll dine, then see where the night takes us. Nothing is ever set in stone. My friends and I are so laid-back and always up for anything.
Do you ever plan on moving? Any favorite cities?
Cindy: I do love my ATL, but I love traveling to other places too. NYC is a favorite. I’ll be visiting in less than a month. There’s something about the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple that drives me insane. Don’t get me wrong, I do like to be a homebody but sometimes I get so restless. I thrive on meeting new people and seeing new sights! My best friend and I are looking into doing some travel nurse work in which we get temporarily relocated every 3 months. I think we’ve pretty much decided on California and NYC. I want to experience other cities not merely from a tourist standpoint, but as a local. I love immersing myself in a new culture!
I hear you recently graduated with a nursing degree. How did you become interested in nursing?
Cindy: I have always loved the medical field. Honestly, I just picked a major and went with it. I’m an extremely caring person so it doesn’t surprise me why I ended up loving the path I took. Nursing is a caring profession. It is also a profession with a huge shortage so SPREAD THE WORD!!!
What’s it like giving people injections? Any good stories?
Cindy: Giving shots is easy-shmeasy. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. Good story: So my boyfriend (at the time, not currently) was really supportive in my nursing studies. I told him that I needed some practice giving shots even though I really didn’t because I had given shots like a bajillion times before–I know, I’m evil. Mind you, he hates shots! So I gave him a saline shot in his ass, shoulder, and forearm. I also attempted to put an IV in his hand, but at that point he was so scared and nervous after the 3 shots that he got really cold and clammy. His nervousness
affected my skill performance so I just quit. I had already put him through a lot.
Have you ever dressed up as a nurse for Halloween?
Cindy: I’ve always wanted to, but I haven’t! Seriously I won’t dress up for Halloween if none of my friends will do it with me. It’s so much funnier and sillier when a whole group coordinates, you know? I was a Fruit of the Loom green grape one year and my best friend was the purple grape. We safety pinned balloons all over ourselves. The costume was such a burden and was extremely staticky. We would walk through doorways sideways and our hairs were constantly sticking up. We were so sick of our costumes within an hour that we decided to have a balloon popping fight instead. Needless to say, I kicked her ass.
I see you have a pretty big tattoo on the side of your body. What’s that all about?
Cindy: The tattoo on my ribcage means a lot to me. I got it last year around a time when certain events caused me to lose hope in myself and break down my self-esteem. This tattoo reminds me of a compromising time, but for an amazing reason–that I’ll never again put myself in a situation where my self-worth is compromised. You mark my words. EVER.
I’ll break my tattoo down in 2:
1. Honesty. A moment of change. A feeling in my soul.
Honesty is the solid basis for everything–relationships, friendships, family, etc. It changes everything either slightly or
extremely…change for the good or for the bad. And there’s always mixed emotions, mixed feelings, about the way being honest affects people. Everyone has to be honest not only to the people in their lives, but (most of all) to themselves. This is especially true with being in a relationship. If you’re not honest to yourself, then you won’t be able to make sound decisions and in turn be able to be honest with other people.
2. A fire. Love. Burning red now blue.
People always metaphorically associate love with a burning flame. If you look at a burning flame you can see the different colors signifying the different settings of heat. The outer part (a cooler setting) is always a reddish hue, and the closer it is to the center, the bluer (and hotter) it gets. Love and relationships are exactly like that. It’s always so hot with passion at first, and then either the flame dies down before you get to the blue part or something just completely puts it out. As fun as it can be, I think it’s trivial to be in transitory relationships with lots of red hot passion and solely that. I am going after a love that burns not only blue, but also the other colors of the flame.
Do you have any other hidden tattoos?
Cindy: Not so much hidden. But I am pretty much a tattoo freak. I have a butterfly on my right foot–a friend has the same one on her left foot. I have a Chinese symbol of the world “believe” on the right side of my lower back. I also have a hummingbird with a flower on the left side of my upper back.
What do you like to do during your free time? Any hobbies?
Cindy: I love to read. I’m currently reading “Water for Elephants” and “Something Borrowed.” I’ve had a birthday recently and got a few books as presents too.
If you had one word to describe yourself what would it be?
Cindy: Bubbly. I’m always positive and am always cheerful. It’s sickening and sometimes intimidating, but I can’t help but laugh, smile, and spread love. Wait, can I have another word to describe me? Goofy. I think insecurity is lame and it’s
great if a person can have a laugh at themselves and be comfortable in their own skin while doing it.
If you had a superpower where you could read somebody’s mind, whose mind would you read and why?
Cindy: My little sister’s. It feels like she’s 12 going on 23. I know reading her mind would so be an invasion of privacy at this age in her life, but MAN do pre-teens go through a lot and clam up about everything! I just want to be able to be a good big sister.
What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod right now?
Cindy: MINE. A friend of mine just built a recording studio and wanted to test it out. I wanted to see how it worked so we recorded me singing to Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” The first few times we all listened to it, it sounded awesome with all the mixes and stuff. But I can’t bear listening to it now. I just end up picking at my mistakes and being humiliated by them!
Who’s your biggest celebrity crush?
Cindy: Besides Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr. because who doesn’t..? Shia LaBeouf. I feel like I’ve grown up watching him since the days he was on the Disney show “Even Stevens.” Might I add, if I can remake that kissing scene he had with that girl in Disturbia…Ooh, that’s all I have to say about that. So Shia, if you’re reading this, I know your birthday is coming up and I would be more than honored to join in your festivities :)
You said you were a “Facebook whore.” How many Facebook friends do you have?
Cindy: 556. It’s so funny because they’re not all your friends, really. More like, acquaintances or people you’ve met, etc.. I think it’s ridiculous how many pictures I have, but (until recently) I didn’t have a camera so FB was the only way I could save pictures.
What’s the funniest picture that’s tagged of you on Facebook? Or did you de-tag it?
Cindy: I can’t believe I’m even sharing this!! But I believe there’s a picture of me peeing in a urinal at a unisex bathroom in Miami. It’s so embarrassing. And yes, that was a definite de-tag!
What’s the naughtiest photo you have on your Facebook right now?
Cindy: One of my best guy friends had just gotten a new camera a couple years ago, so we decided to have a photoshoot where he was the photographer and another close girl friend of mine modeled with me. We were wearing lace and underwear in the pics. I can’t believe it’s still up, but the various artistic angles and tones really make us feel a lot better about taking pics in our underwear and posting them on the internet.
What does a guy have to do to catch your attention?
Cindy: Make me laugh. I feel more comfortable with a guy who has a sense of humor. I <3 goofs.
Describe the worst date that you’ve ever been on.
Cindy: I hate dates. And to tell you the truth, because of that I rarely go on dates. It’s so much pressure even when you don’t want it to be. It’s like going on an interview. For the record, I’d much rather go on “play dates” rather than regular dinner dates. Maybe if the guy took me out to the park to loosen me up a bit over a game of frisbee then we’ll head off to dinner, then MAYBE I’ll feel more comfortable.
Guys love to look at the girls on the dance floor who freak each other. When you see that going on, what do you think?
Cindy: I just love to dance. Whether it be on my own, with girls, with guys, whatever. No one can beat me when I’m screwing in the light bulbs on the dance floor, and I’ve been known to bring out the running man and the sprinkler every now and then.
What do you think men “need to know”?
Cindy: That most girls love to see your goofy sides too! I meet so many guys who always try to impress me and the ones that actually do are the ones who show me a bit of humor. Be yourself and have a laugh while doing it :)
What are you doing this Friday night?
Cindy: I think I’m going to a dinner party. I love when people cook for me–yumm!

What defines a Facebook whore?
Southern women are always more hospitable. They know how to treat men and know the dating process better. They don’t play games like women out in California do. I’ve dated several of those beasts and it’s something I do not want to repeat. They always want bottled water and get upset when I open the door for them. Ths girl cindy seems nothing like that. Down to earth and fun is what guys want. If I ever get sick and have to be in the hospital…I hope to see her face :)
She’s cute. Her blog is interesting as well. It is true about women from the south too. I have dated 2 women before and they tend to be more down to earth than their northern counterparts. must be the lemonade they drink.
wow, hot sexy registered nurse! she looks even hotter with dark long straight hair.
I’m not a big fan of tats, but at least hers has some meaning behind it. But cindy don’t go overboard with the body art. Just trust me.
Facebook whore…I dunno. Perhaps I’ve used the term wrong. Basically…Someone who uses facebook a lot because it is such an awesome networking tool. :) It’s the new age…We can make up our meanings to words, can’t we?
I think I’m in love with a nurse.
Awesome Southern girl. You can give me shots any time. Great questions by the way Ploomy.
go to ny!! nothing beats nyc during the fall, my favorite time/place of the year!
I’m suddenly reminded of my time in Buckhead in Atlanta. She’s cute, but I’m not liking her pick of Shia LeBouf. He single handedly ruined two of my favorite things in the whole world—Transformers and Indiana Jones.
she’s gorgeous. what a gem! she’s my fave of the women so far because she seems fun and has a lot of energy. more pictures next time ploomy!
Southern women are the hottest!!!!!!
southern style asian? yumm.
