These are in no particular order, but we are recommending them because they are entertaining, interesting or just cool websites you should know about. If you’ve got some more cool websites you’d like us to include in a future post, then drop us an email or leave a comment and we’ll check them out. Enjoy.

10 Cool Websites We Recommend

Thesixtyone

Thesixtyone makes music discovery fun again. You’ll like it because it’s like a safari for music junkies. Get rewarded for discovering new music and having discerning tastes. Don’t blame us if you stay up late looking for that one track that helps you level up. Oh yeah, they also have of one the best UI experiences of all the music sites we’ve been too. Definitely one the coolest websites on this list.

Rentometer

Want to find out if you’re paying too much for that swanky little bachelor pad of yours? Check out Rentometer. It’s a nifty little tool that will tell you if you’ve got a steal of a deal or if you should probably renegotiate with your landlord. Luckily we live in a 10-bedroom mansion and don’t have to worry about any of that!

vyn-logo

We like VoteYesOrNo because it allows you to ask the world a question about things you’re curious about and then shows you what the rest of the world thinks. It’s fun because you can get instant feedback on what people think. Try asking a question or checking out some of their popular polls like:

Do you think long distance relationships can work?

Is it worth it to spend the extra money to buy organics?

Is the habit of smoking nasty and selfish to others?

CookingForEngineers

If it’s true that women love guys that can cook, then CookingforEngineers is a cool website you should visit. This site is awesome because it serves up recipes in a way that guys understand. It’s hard to explain, but you just have to trust us on this one. This is a must visit for every guy who likes or wants to cook

ilasting-logo.png

iLasting.com allows you to create an online memorial for a loved one who has passed away. There are a lot of other sites that do this, but this site does it well. They’ve built an easy-to-use interface with meaningful features for people to create a memorial website. Check them out or send to anyone who might have lost someone.

Hulu

Hulu is a free online video service that offers viewers instant access to hit TV shows, movies and clips. Many sites have tried to accomplish the same feat, but it seems like Hulu is actually making it happen. Look out your window and tell me if you see the pigs flying too.

Mint

We are a big fan of saving money here at Ploomy and an even bigger fan of Mint. Mint is a cool website because it allows you to take total control of your finances 24/7. It links all of your bank and credit card accounts and downloads the information for you every night. It serves up your transactions in a detailed, but non-confusing way. The catch: It offers tips on ways you can save money by signing up for other services. It’s a small price to pay if you ask me.

Topix

If CNN or Google News gets boring sometimes and you want something with more local flavor, then check out Topix. You can get news in virtually any city or town in the U.S. Topix links news from 50,000 sources to thousands of forums. If you’re looking for a new way to follow the news, this cool website should be added to your daily habits.

logo-gg

If you’ve ever had to sign a birthday card for a co-worker by passing around a “manila envelope”, then you know what a silly process it is. Most of the time the recipient knows it’s coming and it’s really just a formality. This is why you’ll like GroupGreeting.com, a free service that allows you to create a digital group card that multiple people can sign and share from anywhere in the world.

indeed

If you’re looking for a new job or just want to see what’s currently out there, check out Indeed. This job search engine includes postings from many of the major job listing sites and newspapers. It gives you free instant access to millions of job opportunities. This is a cool website indeed.

Definitely can vouch for hulu.com. Also, if you’re using firefox and adblock plus, you can block all of the in-episode ads.

I heard about indeed.com already, but rentometer.com is a pretty cool website too. It says I am paying about what I should for a 1BR here in Chicago. The other sites are pretty good too.

Great little cooking site there. Engineers do tend to have analytical minds and this is a great site for us. My girlfriend is an engineer by trade, but she doesn’t like the site. Go figure.

Thesixtyone is an awesome site. I thought Pandora and lastfm were my main places to find new music but thesixtyone shows me cool tunes that I’ve never heard of before. Jooce is also a really interesting idea, I’m trying to find a good way to use it in my digital life.

You miss’d some travel sites like kayak. Travel makes up for a lot of internet attention and I’d like to see this category covered in your next round. Thanks for these 10 cool websites though.

Really loving thesixtyone and Hulu. thesixtyone does a lot of neat things to provide for a fun channel for music discovery and I think it could give sites like MySpace and Last.fm a real run for their money. So thanks for the link!

Hulu makes me wonder why I still watch television. I’m hoping they add more seasons of The Office. Also, the ability to watch movies (i.e. Girl next door) is pretty cool.

Indeed is a great site. I’ve been using it for a while and highly recommend it–I love the fact that it’s basically an amalgamation of a lot of other sites.

I haven’t had the chance to use all of the apps listed but my experience with Hulu and Mint has been nothing less of exciting! Rent-o-Meter has saved me a few dolloars on trying to find a decent apartment that is close to my job without breaking the bank. Cooking For Engineers is nirvana for myself since I’m an overly analytical person.
